Honest review
A big, green and very active resort at the foot of Le Morne mountain, on the south-west coast of Mauritius. We came to film a review, and the first thing we noticed was how harmoniously the buildings are placed: over two hundred rooms, yet nothing feels crowded, everyone sees the ocean, and some rooms stand barely 10 metres from the water.
The coastline is the main treasure: several natural coves, light fine sand, a house reef right off the rooms. We also swam on the group snorkelling trip — picturesque, so bring your masks. The dive centre runs trips out to shipwrecks, among other sites.
The 18-hole golf course is one of the most beautiful I have seen: holes up to 500 yards, free group lessons on Mondays and Fridays, and children taught from age 6. Add six tennis courts, gyms with coaches, and zumba and yoga free on schedule — sport is taken seriously here.
The spa works on Beachcomber’s own cosmetics made from natural ingredients, most of them grown on Mauritius: 12 treatment rooms, ayurveda, Tibetan singing bowls, and a path between black stones and bamboo that sets the mood before you even arrive.
Honestly: the grounds are vast, the walks are long without a bicycle (which costs extra), and the base Paradis Bayview category has no direct access to the water. Come for families, golfers and anyone who cannot sit still on holiday.
