If you are choosing Mauritius for a whole-family trip, Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort belongs among the first to consider: the number of children's activities and services here is exceptional, and the adult programme does not suffer for it.
The main practical plus is the shared ecosystem with the chain's neighbouring resort: one booking gives you the restaurants, the entertainment and an amber-sand beach more than a kilometre long between the two.
The setting is the untouched south coast, 2,500 hectares of protected parkland and hills all around. This is a different Mauritius: not a tourist crush but nature, history and space.
What to do is up to you: swimming, sailing, kitesurfing, lounging by the pools, exceptional spa centres, a nature reserve — and for a step into history, a 19th-century plantation house.
A word of advice: take this resort if the beach is only part of your programme. For anyone who wants nothing beyond a cocktail by the pool, this much infrastructure will simply go unused.
