Small, stylish and pointedly calm: Kagi Maldives Spa Island is made for couples — the resort takes guests from 12 years up, and the whole island can be walked round in 20 minutes.
The main currency here is quiet and self-care. Calm music, a good spa, wellness programmes, detox and a focus on healthy cooking; even the minibar plays by the rules — protein honey bars, handmade chocolate and marmalade sweets made from natural fruit.
The villas will please admirers of contemporary interiors, and there is a pool in every category — filled, unusually for these islands, with salt water. No need to chase the top category for the sake of a pool.
An honest note: the island's greenery is still sparse — the landscape is gaining strength. If dense tropics are critical for you, factor that in.
The logistics are pleasant: North Male Atoll, around an hour's journey from Male.
