Shangri-La Boracay

Honest review

Boracay's tropical luxury in its quietest form: the resort stands in a secluded bay on the island's clean northern coast, on a hillside amid lush greenery.

The serenity here is breathtaking: the clear blue water of Puka Shell Beach merges with the sky, with the green hills of Boracay's ecological reserve as the backdrop. Not by chance did the readers of Conde Nast Traveler give it an award among Asia's best resorts in 2021.

The 219 rooms and villas are done in a modern style with Filipino touches; from every window there is greenery and blue water.

We advise starting the evening at Rima, the restaurant up among the treetops, continuing in one of the Solana pavilions by the dazzling white sand, and on another day trying the Chi spa on a rocky peninsula overlooking a private cove. For the active: tennis, kayaking, parasailing and diving.

Getting here takes two short hops: 15 minutes overland from Caticlan airport to the port, then 15 minutes by speedboat to the resort's jetty.

This is the choice for couples and anyone who wants Boracay without the crowds — seclusion, protected greenery and mature service.
