The first piece of advice on Saadiyat Rotana is to choose the right airport: from Abu Dhabi it is only 35 km and about 30 minutes of transfer, from Dubai it is already 149 km, from Sharjah 185. Fly into Abu Dhabi and the road will not spoil the impression.
The beach questions are settled by default: first line, a private 300-metre sandy beach, free sunloungers, umbrellas and towels.
For accommodation, choose between rooms and villas; the views are sea, garden or pool. Rooms come with a large double bed or two singles and a balcony; an extra bed is charged separately — families should factor that into the budget.
Seven restaurants let you dine differently every day: Italian, British, South American, international and grill.
And set aside a day for culture: the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque are landmarks people travel here for in their own right.
