Honest review
If the point of the trip is surfing in Weligama, W15 settles the question of a base: 45 metres to the beach access, every local water sport close at hand, and the spot itself one of the landmarks of Sri Lanka's south coast.
Getting there works like this: just under two hours from Colombo via the Southern Expressway, roughly 143 km. The resort stands right on Galle Road, which links the capital to the south, so it doubles as a base for day trips: Mirissa is 8.7 km away, Matara 18.5, Galle 35.
The place is young — opened in June 2015 — and intimate: the rooms are not carbon copies, each has its own character and twist. The design is ultra-modern, the service restrained and attentive.
Food-wise the day is simple: breakfast of Asian and Western dishes on the open terrace, the day's fresh catch at lunch, and in the evening the restaurant shifts mood and serves fusion under soft light.
One for surfers, couples and independent travellers who plan to explore the island's south rather than stay put.
