Siddhalepa Ayurveda Resort

Honest review

A resort where Ayurveda is not a line in the spa menu but the basis of everything: behind Siddhalepa stand two hundred years of Ayurvedic heritage and a link to the Ayurvedic hospital of the same name — the only one in all of Sri Lanka.

The grounds are more than seven acres of tropical trees, medicinal herbs and vines, the beach 50 metres away, the Indian Ocean in view. The design has won an award for sustainability — down to solar-heated water; sunsets open up from your own terrace.

The medical side is serious: treatments run under the supervision of qualified doctors trained in specialist clinics, and the centre has access to medicines produced to ISO standards. The programmes cover recovery, rejuvenation and relaxation.

The kitchen carries the concept through: vegetables from the resort's own organic garden, fresh seafood, and the doctors will help compose a personal menu. This is the only resort in Sri Lanka with a culinary award for Ayurvedic cuisine.

The location is Wadduwa: 6 km to Kalutara, 39 to Colombo, 65 to the international airport. Come here for health and a reset rather than entertainment — and set yourself up for a full programme, not a couple of one-off treatments.
