The largest resort in Sri Lanka: 58 hectares along the ancient spice route on the island's untouched southern shore.
Hambantota is above all about nature: the national parks of Yala, Udawalawe, Lunugamvehera and Bundala are nearby, which puts the best expeditions into Asian flora within easy reach. Unusual excursions are organised right at the resort.
The second reason to come is golf: Sri Lanka's only 18-hole course of this scale, designed by the well-known golf architect Rodney Wright. It spreads across a coconut plantation, a sapphire quarry, lakes and sand dunes — a challenge for beginners and experienced players alike.
The rooms are very spacious and homely, with tropical gardens all around. For children there is an extensive kids' club and an entertainment programme, so families settle in easily.
The honest minus is the road: about 240 km from Bandaranaike International Airport, a transfer of 4–5 hours; noticeably faster — about 30 minutes — from the airport nearest to Hambantota.
