Jungle Beach Trincomalee

Honest review

The main compromise first: Uga Jungle Beach lies about 265 km from the airport — nearly 6 hours on the road. That is the price the east coast asks for staying untouched, and the thing to negotiate is your route, not the destination.

The plan builds itself: Kuchchaveli sits 27 km from Trincomalee, so it makes sense to travel across the country with stops and set the resort as the final point.

What waits at the end: 49 contemporary chalets in lush greenery with views of the Indian Ocean and the lagoon, each with a terrace and an open-air tropical shower. The format is intimate and calm: come for quiet, not for entertainment programmes.

By day — snorkelling, diving, water skiing, sailing and whale watching; by evening — Sri Lankan cooking built on local seafood in the resort's restaurant.

Who it suits: couples and seasoned travellers who want to see the other, eastern Sri Lanka — and understand why the journey is so long.
