If the task is to hide away beautifully in southern Sri Lanka, Haritha Villas + Spa solves it better than most. This is an exclusive boutique format: two colonial-style mansions and just 7 modern villas — it simply cannot get crowded here.
A tip on choosing: the villas sit below the mansions on the hillside, and each has its own deep seawater pool; the mansions share one large pool. Decide in advance what suits you better — the full autonomy of a villa or the colonial atmosphere of a mansion.
The design by GFAB Architects is artistic and considered, and the project itself was built from local materials with non-toxic paints to keep its harmony with nature. The view over the rice field is meditative.
The infrastructure runs to a restaurant, a lounge with a library, a gazebo and a spa; experiences and wellness treatments are put together individually.
Be honest about the logistics: Hikkaduwa, 20 km from Galle, 121 km from Colombo and 144 km from the airport — this is not 'half an hour and you are there'. Who it suits: couples and anyone travelling for quiet and privacy of the highest order.
