Ekho Surf's main practical argument is geography: compared with most resorts on Sri Lanka's south-west and southern coasts, it is noticeably closer to the airport. That means a quicker transfer and none of that gruelling drive after the flight — with small children, a deciding factor.
The second plus is the front line of Bentota beach: some ground-floor rooms open onto the lawn that separates the building from the beach. The sea is a few steps from the door.
It is also a convenient base for excursions across the island: Buddhist temples, thrilling safaris in the national parks.
On the grounds — a spa and free-roaming local fauna: monitor lizards, chipmunks, herons and other birds. Children are usually delighted.
We recommend it to families with little ones and to anyone unwilling to spend the first day of the holiday on the road.
